Creating with UTEE
UTEE = Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel
"Those look like milk glass and so delicate! It must be hard to make them! It must be magic!"
UTEE flowers that look like glass |
Let's show you how easy it can be!
The Ranger Melting Pot was plugged in and temperature set. UTEE powder was poured in and the lid put on.
Two WARNINGS:
1. Remember the Melting Pot is EXTREMELY hot! Do Not Put Fingers Inside of Handles! Use the Pinchers, thumb, and fingers to pick up or move the Ranger Melting Pot!Three Different Flowers
Three different types of flowers were shown to us. So amazing to think it is only paper and some melted embossing powder! It must be magic!
Neenah 110# Exact Index White paper |
The white one with skinny petals, looking like a daisy of sorts, was the first one made and not the favorite although it was still beautiful!
Very first faux glass flower made! |
The little babyÅ› breath was adorable! How was something so little handled?

By then, the practice had paid off!
Colored powders were added to the UTEE to color it. Adding two colors and swirling with the spatula gave the UTEE a marbled look. This is what had been looked for!
Two larger petals were curved and bent before dipping into the heated UTEE. The petals of the finished flowers were gorgeous! A perfectly colored pearl was placed in the center.
Stunning blue and white marbled effect! |
Bronze and Blue tie dyed effect |
TIP: Purchase white or clear gems, trim, lace, ribbon, etc. and color with your alcohol markers to match your flower!

Faux Milk Glass Aster
We saw the flower that was made and the pieces we would need to make another one. This was so exciting! Neenah 110# white Exact Index cardstock was punched in different sizes to fit together.
Four sizes of dainty petals. |
Start with the largest of the flower shapes. Holding this piece carefully with tweezers, dunk it into the Melting Pot. Make sure to cover it thoroughly with UTEE.
Cover each part of the flower with UTEE. |
Make sure you have a heat resistant craft mat or a silicone mat to drop your hot pieces on!
Now comes the fun, magical part!
The UTEE has hardened and now needs to be molded. Do not be discouraged. The faux glass flower is the goal. Be patient! No two will be alike. And practice makes better! 😀😀😀
In order for the two layers to stay together, they need to both be wet and warm. This is the trick!! This is where your Ranger Heat It Tool (heat gun) comes in handy. Not your regular cylindrical one. It would blow Everything away!
Heat It Craft Tool is the perfect secret to heating between the layers! |
Heat It Craft Tool |
Slowly heat the second layer of the flower. Do not heat it too much. Just enough to move the petals.
Gently bending petals in |
Now comes the tricky part. Slowly and carefully bend each petal slightly. Heat the first layer with the heat gun. As you do that, dip the bottom of the second layer into the melted UTEE. Place it on the heated first layer. Just be patient...and voila! They have stuck together!
Heating both layers so they will stick |
Continue slowly, heating each layer and gently pushing each layer's petals inward more and more until you put the last little flower in.
LOOK! What a beautiful faux milk glass flower! |
Adding Color!

A pinch of this and a pinch of that. Swirl gently with the silicone spatula, not too much! Make one more flower!

Molds
When getting ready to clean your Melting Pot, consider using your silicone molds. Pouring into them created beautiful butterflies!
Pouring into molds |
Set aside to let cool |
Clean Up
Dumping the rest of the melted UTEE there is a chance to lay a stamp on the puddle on the craft mat. REMEMBER to add Versamark to your stamp prior to using it on the hot embossing enamel.
Hoping to get a beautiful impression when cooled. |
Clean up is a lot easier than you can imagine. Just as long you remember that the Ranger Melting Pot is incredibly HOT! Just a bunched paper towel to wipe. Throw away before wiping again.
Paper towel and caution to clean Melting Pot |
This created an opportunity to good to pass up! Gold powder UTEE was added. It melted quickly and a metallic butterfly was born. It came out with bubbles and seed beads were added. What an interesting embellishment!
