Make Your Own Enamel Embellishments Easily!
Enamel embellishments, jewelry pieces, 3D craft, and mixed media elements; all made easy with a heat source and a melted powder. Not knowing what to expect, I decided to sit back and watch this particular video, without taking notes for this blog, and view it with an open mind!
WARNING: Not for young children!
Make sure you work on a heat-resistant surface like a Teflon Craft Mat. The glue or hot, melted UTEE can drip or stick onto your work surface.

Ranger Melting Pot
The Melting Pot by Ranger is a tool that has a triangularly shaped metal tray surrounded by a plastic casing. It sits flat on your work surface and plugs in to be heated. There is a dial on the Melting Pot that can be set at temperatures of 200, 250, 300, then it says "UTEE", which is estimated to be 350 degrees.😀
Ranger Melting Pot |
The Ranger Melting pot has been discontinued. There is one on Amazon and several on eBay sites that are slightly used but available. Click on the link above for more information
UTEE = Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel
Ranger Ultra Thick Embossing Powder 6-ounce, Clear |
Used in the Ranger Melting Pot is the UTEE. It comes dry, like an embossing powder, a bit courser. The powder melts creating clear, thick liquid.
Using reverse tweezers works best for holding the object you wish to cover with UTEE. Hold a punched piece of paper at the very edge and lay one side into it. Lay the UTEE side up onto your craft mat, careful not to burn yourself! It will be hot!

Circles cut from the patterned paper were beautiful! Once comfortable working with the UTEE, try doing simple scenery ie; water with sky and sun, the globe, a flower, leaves. The possibilities are endless!
Butterfly on a circle, beautiful! |
Some use a toothpick for popping baby tiny bubbles and smoothing glitter, mica or other items.
You can add more UTEE to the Melting Pot if it's running low. NEVER, ever mix UTEE and the glue!

Instead of discarding it, Ultra Thick Embossing Powder can be saved from use to use by letting it cool and covering it with the lid. You will find the UTEE had yellowed since using it last. That has to do with how many times you have heated it and how long you have heated it for. It can be simply reheated or removed from the Melting Pot. And then off you go!!
Darice Hot Temp Glue Pot
This Glue Pot has a metal dish but it is round. It is encased in plastic and gets plugged in. There are no temperature settings so this melting pot automatically is set to the correct temperature. The whole Glue Melting Pot is about 2/3 the size of the Ranger Melting Pot.
The Darice Hot Temp Glue Pot is still available. It can be found at Amazon with more information by clicking on the picture above. The melted glue is just that, very hot melted glue.

Once heated, a glue stick was cut in pieces into the round Darice Hot Glue Pot! Slowly the glue started to stick to the bottom, showing that it was melting. Multi temp glue sticks were used.

There is a melting pot that uses low-temperature glue sticks. This may be safer but we don't have that one to compare. Follow this link and it will take you to Amazon for more information.
Silicone Spatula |
A Silicone spatula is a perfect tool to help stir and move your hot projects that have UTEE and glue on them.
While waiting for the glue to finish melting, UTEE was tested to see if it would work in the Hot Temp Glue Pot, the answer was 'YES'! UTEE melted in the Darice Hot Glue Pot! UPDATE: UTEE will melt but cools too quickly to use in a project.

So, I learned a new craft! I will have to go back and take some notes. It was so fascinating to see those brads! I wonder what other items can be altered with this Darice Hot Melt Glue Pot?
